Fire door technician (Inspector / Maintainer / Installer) x2
Start date: Immediate
Location: Midlands based, Head office Nottingham
Due to our continuous growth and successful appointment on new contracts, we require two experienced fire door technicians to join the FCS Special Projects team. The successful candidates will work daily between Manchester, Scunthorpe and Aylesbury.
What we are looking for:
The successful candidates will carry out repairs and maintenance on fire doors to meet the requirements of the BM Trada maintenance scheme. In addition, you will conduct intrusive and non-intrusive fire door surveys in accordance with the latest British and EN standards on small and large projects. You will ensure that all work is within Health & Safety regulations and quality company requirements.
Fire Consultancy Specialists is UKAS 3rd Party Accredited to complete fire door maintenance under the BM TRADA Q-Mark maintenance scheme. This ensures that our maintainers/inspectors, policies and procedures are regularly audited to ensure that we provide a compliant, competent, professional and accredited service.
You will need:
- Experience working in the passive fire industry or with fire foors
- Experience of maintaining and repairing fire doors to meet regulatory requirements
- Ideally experience working under the BM Trada Q-Mark maintenance scheme (training provided)
- Experience with codes of practice, standards and interpreting manufacturers’ details relating to passive fire protection
- You should ideally hold relevant qualifications and training in passive fire stopping, fire safety and fire compartmentation ie ASFP, NVQ, Fire Door Inspector Scheme
- To be self-motivated, flexible and able to work away from home when required
- To have an understanding of the British Standards and EN covering the areas of work
- To have a good understanding of timber fire doors and similar furniture
- To be able to identify defects that will affect the fire integrity of door sets
- To carry out compliant repairs that meet the scheme standards
- A good working knowledge of current Health & Safety and other relevant legislation
- The ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail
- A positive and proactive can-do attitude with genuine enthusiasm to learn and develop your own skills and knowledge

Fire Door Surveyor
What we are looking for
This role will carry out Passive & Fire Door Surveys in accordance with the latest British and EN standards on small and large projects. You will ensure that all works are within Health & Safety and quality company requirements.
You will need
- Experience working in the Passive Fire industry
- Ensure the passive fire protection within buildings is installed in accordance with certified details, fire test reports and manufacturers’ installation instruction
- Experience with codes of practice, standards and interpreting manufacturers’ details relating to passive fire protection
- You should ideally hold relevant qualifications and training in passive fire stopping, fire safety, fire compartmentation i.e., ASFP, NVQ, Fire Door Inspector Scheme
- Self-motivated, flexible, able to work away from home when required.
- An understanding of the British Standards & EN covering the areas of work.
- Produce reports and offer advice and recommendations to clients.
- Have a good understanding of Timber Fire Doors and similar furniture.
- Be able to identify that the frame specification is correct for the door’s rating.
- Be able to ensure that the choice of Frame/lining/casing and intumescent smoke seals are compatible.
- Have good working knowledge of current Health & Safety and other relevant legislation.
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail

Passive Fire Surveyor
You will lead on the assessment of fire safety issues and technical risks by the application of expert knowledge and understanding of UK fire safety legislation, Building Regulations and associated standards.

Your Day to day Role
An Experienced Passive Fire Surveyor is a key role within the company to ensure all property maintenance is installed and carried out to the correct legislation which involves ensuring any remedial works are identified are reported and quotes generated. You will also be confident in providing advice in relation to the fire safety of the property to provide confidence for the client that the design that is developed should achieve the expected FCS standard of fire safety, comply with the clients’ objectives and meet all relevant legal fire safety requirements.
The candidate would ideally have:
- Experience of passive fire surveying.
- Ability to undertake site passive fire inspections at both existing buildings and construction sites with precision to ensure that passive fire protection is installed in accordance with certified details and manufacturer’s instructions
- Undertake site inspections, surveys and building audits relating to passive fire protection such as fire stopping & cavity barriers
- Ensure the passive fire protection within buildings is installed in accordance with certified details, fire test reports and manufacturers’ installation instructions
- Experience with codes of practice, standards and interpreting manufacturers’ details relating to passive fire protection
- You should ideally hold relevant qualifications and training in passive fire stopping, fire safety, fire compartmentation i.e. ASFP, NVQ (however not essential)
- Read and interpret technical drawings
- Prepare reports when requested using our systems
- Ensure high standards of productivity and workmanship are maintained in the execution of work
- A strong experience in fire safety fields.
- Very good interpersonal skills and demonstrable experience of developing and maintaining close links with colleagues, clients and contractors are essential.
- Be aware of appropriate legislation and design guidance for use in the UK
- Have the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, working to tight deadlines and juggling multiple demands.
This is a home-based role with travel across the UK, however there will be an opportunity for this role to be office-based in the future.
Qualities and skills we’re looking for
You will have:
- Full UK driving license

- Ability to read technical drawings, and be IT literate
